UPDATE: The Assembly passed the resolution on the consent agenda, which means there was no public hearing specifically for the resolution and no assembly person wanted to pull it out of the consent agenda for further discussion.

At its regular meeting on February 12, the Fairbanks Borough Assembly will be voting on a resolution to allow the Borough Mayor to apply for a grant to fund planning and design of the Nenana to Fairbanks section of the Alaska Long Trail (AKLT).

My Take
I support the Alaska Long Trail (AKLT) and this resolution. A lot of money is being spent on planning and design of southern portions of the trail, but much less has been done in the north. There are some who oppose the AKLT and I believe I understand their concerns. However, I believe some of those concerns are unfounded. With the legitimate concerns, I believe that reasonable compromises can be found. The AKLT is a great way to improve trail opportunities for locals while also providing a way to help increase outdoor recreation tourism.
