This is the big weekend for the Alaska Dog Mushers Association and the dog mushing trail system in the Creamers Field Area.
This Friday, Saturday and Sunday (March 14-15-16) the Open North American Sled dog race will feature 21 teams of elite sled dogs from Alaska, Canada, and Europe. The teams have been training for this all winter and will range in size from 12 to 20 dogs. The teams will be traveling at average speeds up to 20 mph.
Each day the race starts at 1:00 PM and should finish by 4:00 PM. The entire Jeff Studdert system will be used for the race and all colored loops shown HERE will be in use.
Other trail users are requested to stay off the trail system during the race and not bring pets with them if spectating. These sled dog teams are up to 100 feet long and the musher may not be able to see you to stop, especially in trail sections that are curvy.
Thank you and enjoy the races!
