A trial started today regarding public access to a trail in the Ester area. The case, Orth vs Largent, has been in the works for years. After several delays the trial has finally started.
The case regards whether there is legal public access to the Ester Valley Trail, a trail/road that runs through the Ester Valley. Trail user and advocate Geoffrey Orth is arguing that the trail has a legal public access. Miner Walter Largent disagrees. The outcome of this trial could have broader implications on legal public access to other trails, as it will become part of the Alaska court case history.
